Trip Report: Gothic Basin

Gothic Basin has been on my list for awhile, so Emma and I headed up today to check it out. The first 3+ miles are snow-free and in pretty good shape, relatively speaking. I knew the basin itself was supposed to be beautiful, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that there are also great views …

Trip Report: Squire Creek Pass via Eight Mile Creek

With a forecast of sunny and 74 degrees (!!) in Darrington, I decided today would be a great day to head for Squire Creek Pass. I've always been oddly fascinated by Whitehorse Mountain, and was excited to see it from a new angle at the pass. Ideally I wanted to set up a shuttle and do Squire …

Trip report: Thompson Lake point-to-point

A few weeks ago I took the new road-to-trail conversion to Granite Lakes and Thompson Lake. It was nice, but out-and-backs aren't my favorite. I decided that next time I would make it a point-to-point, starting at the Granite Creek Road trailhead and finishing at Pratt Lake trailhead. That's the route I did today, and …

Trip Report: High Divide and Seven Lakes Basin

Lazy woman's trip report - why re-invent the wheel when Luke already did a great write-up? Here's his trip report: http://seekingultra.blogspot.com/2015/03/high-divide-loop-olympic-national-park.html And here's one of my pics from the day. Many more photos on Luke's blog.

Trip report: Boardman Lake

Yesterday we decided to take a family hike to Boardman Lake. We were expecting big crowds because the weather was so nice, but it actually wasn't that bad. We probably saw a half dozen other groups, including a family with a gorgeous Malamute who stood on a log and howled at the lake. Both our daughter …

Trip report: Monte Cristo loop and a little bit of Perry Creek

As I've mentioned previously, exploring new trails makes me a happy camper. So when I heard about the new-ish gravel road to the ghost town of Monte Cristo, I was eager to take a peek. I didn't have many details and the road is not yet on any maps, so I wasn't sure exactly what …

Trip Report: Tonga Ridge

Tuesday was one of those clear sunny days that makes you crave mountain views, but it was also a recovery day so I needed something on the mellow side. I decided to check out Tonga Ridge, which has a relatively high-elevation trailhead. The goal was to get some views without working too hard. (Normally Tonga …

Trip Report: Thompson and Granite Lakes

I'm a sucker for new trails (or just new-to-me), and last week I read a trip report about the new-ish Granite Creek road to trail conversion, so I had to go check it out. The DNR did a pretty nice job converting the old Granite Creek road to a shiny new trail. Of course it's …

Trip Report: Barnes Creek

I wasn't originally planning to go to Olympic National Park today, but yesterday Glenn Tachiyama posted the first clue to find the Quicksilver Running Club silver coin (see below). If you find the coin, you win free entry to the Quicksilver 50k/100k in San Jose, and are entered to win a $500 travel stipend. My college …

Trip report: Lunds Gulch

Yesterday I did a short "urban trail run" to Lunds Gulch. Unfortunately, the last time I parked at Meadowdale Beach Park my car got broken into, so I'm leery of that lot. Therefore this time I parked in the neighborhood approximately 1 mile south of the park, and ran north along the water. I accessed …

Technically, I'm packing light: only two bags!
You know what they say! It's never too early to go bikerafting!
Headed home yesterday via coulee country, with a couple short hikes along the way. Caves are cool. Rocks are rad! 🤓
Spent the day exploring the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge. A gravel bike and running shoes were the perfect tools for the job. I'd mapped out a route but ultimately ignored it and just wandered around, hopping off my bike to explore on foot whenever something caught my eye. It was glorious.
Woo-eee that was an incredible morning of riding! Possibly the best day of the season! 😍
Opening night of Beauty and the Beast at @themercplayhouse! So proud of this girl and the many hours of hard work she put into memorizing her lines, learning her cues, and practicing the choreography. So grateful for The Merc and everyone who puts these shows together and gives theater kids like Rowan a home away from home.
