On Saturday morning I headed up to Gold Creek for some more time-on-feet.
The valley was beautiful, despite (because of?) the fog and grey. I had just passed the old avalanche track and was barreling down a hill back into the forest, when I rounded a corner and surprised a beautiful chocolate-colored black bear. It took one look at me and scampered up the hill. I wasn’t nearly quick enough on the draw to get a picture, but it was still so cool.

I went about 4 miles in on Gold Creek trail and it was snow-free the entire way. Then I finished up with a short jaunt around Gold Creek Pond. Yes, the pond is man-made with a paved trail around the perimeter. But the water is so clear and blue I couldn’t resist a photo.
